4. Approaches to Learning (ATL) in the MYP and DP

ATL Skills are explicitly and purposefully taught in the IB Classroom to help students “learn how to learn”. ATL’s are part of all 3 programs.

The ATL skill categories and clusters are:

Social	II.                  Collaboration Listening actively, Give and receive feedback, take responsibility
Self-management	III.               Organization Plan for short and long term assignments, meet deadlines
	IV.               Affective Focus and concentration, understanding failure, “Failing well”
	V.                  Reflection Reconsider the process of learning, making future changes and future plans.
Research	VI.               Information literacy Finding judging and interpreting information, referencing, academic honesty
	VII.            Media literacy Ethically use information, identify bias
Thinking	VIII.         Critical thinking Analysis and evaluation
	IX.               Creative thinking Generating ideas, brainstorming, visual thinking
	X.                  Transfer Using skills in new situations
